How to Become a Realtor in Washington

Each state regulatory agency establishes licensing systems and requirements to safeguard the public from unqualified, unethical realty professionals.

You need to have an active real estate license from the Washington Department of Licensing if you want to purchase or offer residential or commercial property.

To qualify for a real estate license, you should:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully total of 90 hours of approved realty education within 2 years before requesting the exam. This
  • education needs to include:
  • Complete A 60-hour course in Realty Fundamentals.
    Complete A 30-hour course in Property Practices. Register and pass the broker’s test with the exam provider, Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP). For more information on scheduling your test, visit the Washington State Department of Licensing site.
